    Edward Thomas's first book was called the Woodland Life, and was published when he was 19. He didn't start writing poetry until he was in his late 30s, after World War one started in 1914. The Edward Thomas Fellowship has more information.

      Edward Thomas, the son of a civil servant from Wales was born in London  on 3rd March, 1878.
      After his education at St. Paul's School and Lincoln College, Oxford, Thomas became a writer of reviews and topographical works. His first book, The Woodland Life, was published in 1897.
