Not only can a child develop lupus, but also arthritis, and rheumatic heart disease can cause drawing of muscles and bone are painful. Try not to put a disease on him until the Doctor has finished his tests.  There are a few more diseases that causes severe bone pain. You never know when the same will hit another member of the same family, and I have no doubt that when bones are affected it is very very painful.
