There are some precautions required when you are cleaning a carpet the colour of which is white. You can use a vacuum cleaner and by using it you can remove all the dirt from the carpet.
If your carpet is a small one and handy, you can wash it in detergent also but never wash it along with other things as if they are excreting their colours, then certainly your white carpet is in trouble and can get stained with colours of other things.
You have to take precaution while getting it dried also and don't keep it in the full sunshine as the colour of your carpet can fade; a white carpet can also fade its colour. When it gets dried you can keep it at its proper place and enjoy the beauty of the colour white.

The question should be "How do you clean a carpet". It's white and yes it will show dirt easier but the technique is the same regardless of color.
There's a lot of ways to clean carpet but for the homeowner extraction is probably the best choice. Rent yourself a machine and give it a go. Here are some tips:
Go easy on the detergent. We all know that detergents clean but they need to be rinsed well. Fabric left with a detergent residue only creates problems by having to constantly clean. Sticky residues attract dirt.
Use your detergent in a sprayer and let the machine do the rinsing. Please don't go overboard in the detergent. You'll find a little goes a long ways with proper technique. Improper cleaning of carpet will result in cleaning in a more constant basis then if cleaned properly. This usually results in a frustrated homeowner blaming the carpet and eventually yanking it out for another floor covering.
Dry,dry,dry. make a lot of dry passes after the rinsing. Put down fans or turn on your heater. If left to wet it will be prone to wicking and the result may be a blotchy looking carpet.
Lastly, consider alternating between a professional cleaning and a dry cleaning in between. Find a reputable company as some can make the situation worst.
