The main speciality of the Sears Tower is that it is the tallest building in America. Commissioned by Sears, Roebuck and Company, the tower was planned by chief architect Bruce Graham along with other structural engineers Srinivasa Iyengar and Fazlur Khan of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.

The construction for this structure was started in August 1970 and the structure touched its original planned height on May 3rd, 1973. When finished, the Sears Tower had surpassed the roof of the World Trade Center in New York City as the tallest building in the world.

The building has a total of 108 stories according to standard methods, but the owners of the building reckon the main roof to be the 109th floor and the perfunctory penthouse covering as the 110th one.
