Why Won't Me Car Shift Out Of Park?

I have a ford escort zx2. It will not shift into drive. It stays in park. It wont release itself. The sensors are working

    Do you mean, you have the brake pedal depressed and you can not move the shifter? If so, check to see if the brake lights are working. Because if they aren't, the brake light switch could be bad.
    If the brake lights are working, then it could be a shifter cable problem.
    If you can move the shifter and it won't go into gear, then it might be a neutral safety switch problem, or an internal problem with the transmission.
