Sounds like bad air or an eye infection,... Wiping away with a warm damp cloth will help this, i would clear it out more than just once a day, the warm water will help moisturize its eyes and keep build up from occurring... Hope the lil fella gets better...

This is misleading. You should take your hamster to a veterinarian immediately!

You can apply a little bacitracin to it, or even neosporin ointment, just the smallest amounts though for a couple of days. See if this helps, make sure you wipe his eyes of with a wet paper towel first. Hope this helps, good luck.

No this does not sound normal.

It could be eye infection like conjunctivitis (you might notice the white portions of the eye are red and his eyes are probably watery when he does have them open) or it also could be only allergies at this time of year.  Hamsters have them like the rest of us!

So if your hamster does not improve after a day or two of keeping his eyes wiped with a warm damp cloth, I think you should take him to the vet.  I would not recommend putting medicine in his eyes, only because it  is unknown what it is you would be treating.  Also many medications are only meant for topical (on the skin) use, and anything not prescribed by a vet could damage his eyesight or harm him.

Don't trust any of us to fix your hamster. Take it to a licensed veterinarian immediately!
