Derby County Football Club was formed in 1884 as a part of Derbyshire County Cricket Club. They also took over Derby Midland FC in 1891 to form one team.

Derby County were one of twelve founding members of the Football League which was formed in 1888.

Derby County are nicknamed 'the Rams'. Their original home ground was the 'Racehorse Ground', but they moved to the 'Baseball Ground' which was to become their home for over 100 years. They now play at Pride Park Stadium in Derby which can hold just over 33,500.

Derby County currently play in the Championship division following their relegation from the Premiership in 2002. They finished in 20th place in the table for the 2005/06 season.
