Answer Question

Sovereignty is the right to control a government, country, people, or oneself. A sovereign is a
    supreme lawmaking authority.

Great nations who understand the importance of sovereignty at various times give up various portions of it in order to achieve better good for their country. The phenomenon keeps looking at how the nation-state functions in a totally different way than people did in the beginning of this century.

The history of sovereignty can be understood by the help of two broad movements, manifested in both practical institutions and political thought. The first is the development of a system of sovereign states, culminating at Westphalia in 1648. Contemporaneously, it became prominent in political thought through writings of Machiavelli, Bodin, and Hobbes. The second movement was the circumscription of the sovereign state, which began after World War II and has since continued through European integration and strengthening of laws and practices to protect human rights. This is how it became popular and important.
