    First you have to know that a leukemia is a malignant disease,meaning a form of cancer.
    A leukemia is caused by the production of abnormal white blood cells by the bone marrow(which is the part of the body that makes all  stem blood  cells).white blood cells are in many types and forms,and about leukemia, there are two forms:lymphocytic and myeloide leukemias.Either one can be acute or chronic and the evolution is very different.your doctor should explain the different methods of treatment.
