What Is Sulphide Ore?

An ore is a voluminous rock that contains minerals or components in a mode of occurrence that renders it valuable for mining. It is important for an ore to contain minerals that are valuable, preferably in large concentrations for profitable mining and transportation and should be able to be extracted by mining techniques from waste rock. Process of ore formation is known as ore genesis. Sulphide ore refers to various types of chemical compounds which contain sulphur in lowest oxidation number which is -2. Sulphide usually refers to C-S-C linkage in organic chemistry. Sulphide ore needs to be processed to extract required metals from the waste rock. Some sulphides are insoluble which makes them harmless. Examples of sulphides are sodium sulphide (Na2S), hydrogen sulphide (H2S), carbon disulphide (CS2) and tetraphosphorus decasulfide (P4S10).
