Which Towns Are In Berkshire?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Most of the population of Berkshire is based in the urban areas to the east and centre of the county.

    These urban towns are:

    Slough
    Reading
    Maidenhead
    Windsor
    Wokinghm
    Sandhurst
    Crowthorne
    Bracknell
    Twyford

These are the largest towns of Berkshire. West Berkshire is much more rural and less densely populated. It has fewer towns, and these are:

    Newbury
    Thatcham
    Hungerford
    Lambourn

Since 1831, the population has increased massively. This could be connected with sweeping boundary changes. There were 146,234 people in Berkshire in 1831, and this had risen to 252,571 by 1901. 122,807 were male, 129,764 were female.

The population of Berkshire has developed as follows:

    1831 - 146,234 people
    1841 - 161,759 people
    1851 - 170,065 people
    1861 - 176,356 people
    1871 - 196,475 people
    1881 - 218,363 people
    1891 - 238,709 people
    1901 - 252,571 people

Berkshire has a total population of 803,657 people, according to 2003 estimates.
