Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The term 'inguinal ligament' signifies a band that runs from the pubic tubercle to the anterior superior iliac spine of a person's body.  The ligament is formed by the external abdominal oblique aponeurosis and also they continue with the fascia lata that is located in thigh.

This ligament forms the basis of inguinal canal and it is this place from where hernia develops and therefore the anatomy of inguinal ligaments is very important for the patients of the disease of hernia.

Sometimes the ligament also called Poupart's ligament after the name of the scientist Poupart who is known to give the relevance of these ligaments to the repair of hernia. Some people also call it fallopian ligament but this term is less frequent even in scientific terminology.
