The city Stoke-on-Trent is located in Staffordshire, a ceremonial county n the West Midlands region in England. This city is actually a federation comprising six older towns (namely Stoke, Hanley, Burslem, Tunstall, Fenton and Longton) which forms a linear city that is nearly twelve miles long, having a total area of 36 square miles.
The city is about mid-way between Birmingham and Manchester. It adjoins Newcastle-under-Lyme, a town and borough that is administered separately. Jointly they form a conurbation that is a population of over 360,000 people.
In the city there is a town called Stoke, whose full name is Stoke-upon-Trent. Many people confuse this town with its parent city as they share similar names. The chief shopping centre is Hanley and the city also boasts of many museums and galleries. Tourists also make it a point to visit the Peak District National Park which is only ten miles away. Nightlife has seen a surge in recent years.
