Traditionally the husband's name appeared first, though the rules are less fixed nowadays. It might be a good idea to ask the funeral home for advice on wording generally.

Place them side by side with the last name appearing on the top. In my family we place them according to the placement of the bodies; whoever is on the left has there name on the left.
