How Many Grams Of Carbon Are Present In .50 Mole Of Sucrose?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The molecular formula of sucrose is C12H22O11, 12 Carbon weighing 12 each, 22 Hydrogen weighing 1 each and 11 oxygen weighing 16 each.  Total mw is 342 of which 144 is carbon.

    0.50 mole of sucrose will weigh 0.50 * 342 grams = 171 grams.

    144/342 of the sucrose is carbon.  171 * (144/342) = 72 grams.
