Why Is Accuracy And Precision?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

If I say that the value of Pi is
      2.937541822395733091
The number I have given is very precise, but completely inaccurate. (The real value of Pi is closer to 3.141592658979...)

Precision is a measure of the error associated with the specification of a number. Accuracy is a measure of the error with respect to true value. A number is more precise or more accurate if there is less error.

It is not uncommon for various digital meters to have a precision that greatly exceeds their accuracy. For example, a digital thermometer may display its value to a precision of 0.1°, but may have an accuracy error of up to 2°.
