A Hybrid car is basically a vehicle that makes use of two or more power sources. Hybrid car is the name used for Hybrid electric vehicles that have internal combustion engine as well as electric motors.

The first form of a Hybrid car was designed and invented by Ferdinand Porsche while he was employed at Lohner Coach Factory in the year 1901. It was a series hybrid vehicle and was named Mixte. This car made use of a gasoline engine that powered a generator, which in turn powered electric hub motors with a small battery. This car had a range of 50 km and a speed of 50 km/hr.
