Racoon Was Trapped In The Dumpster.......any Idea?
Racoon fell in to open dumpster by my apt..I called 4 different agencies & none would come to get it out..Fire dept. Suggested putting a box in with it, in case it could climb out...well, I did, but it did not come out..I checked 4 hrs later and it was all stretched out, breathing just slightly..3 days later, I saw that someone had put the box over it...dead...I am upset that no one would come to save it...my friends think I'm making a big deal of nothing...thoughts and comments, please?

Racoons are notorious for being able to get in or out of anything. I'm pretty sure that a healthy racoon could have gotten out. I hope it makes you feel better to know that.

Animal control would have come to rescue this racoon and set it free. It's ashamed you didn't have a box trap that you could have baited to get it to go in the box and then set it free. I'm sorry you had to see this animal suffer and die. Peace.

Sorry to hear about this little guy but he may not have been very healthy like jb185 stated. Not sure if you live in the city or in the country, but if other animals have a habit of strolling around your neighborhood, you may want to get the phone number of animal control or game and fish (depending on type of animals) and post the number near your phone. Wish your friends would have been more sympathetic.

I'm so sorry to see this post. If it happens again place a branch or like object from bottom to a corner, a climbing animal will use like a staircase. To avoid this happening again, you could place a friendly large sign on front of dumpster. "Please kip lid closed"
