If You Win A Holiday But Don't Want To (or Can't) Take It, Can You Sell It Or Is This Not Allowed?

There are no strict rules on this, but it is more often than not covered in the small print in the terms and conditions. They do often state that 'the prize is non transferable', or that there is no alternative to the prize.
In general you are probably not going to able to transfer and if you assume you can't - then you will never be disappointed! However, there are always going to be exceptions to the rule. You never know until you try and the vast majority of prizes always turn out to be pretty flexible, whatever the terms and conditions say. Usually, the promoter turns over all the responsibility of dealing with the prize winner to either the Travel Company, or promotion agency running the competition. They will often allow all sorts of changes to the prize (additional people, different destinations, changes in duration etc.,) as their only concern is the budget, which you either stick to, or pay any additional costs incurred by your requested changes. I once won a trip to a health spa with my Grandmother, the prize clearly stated train travel included, however, as we were based in the North of Scotland it was going to take too long by train so they flew us down but from Edinburgh, which meant they also paid our train fares to Edinburgh where we got to spend an extra night.
