If you believe in the relativity of time, then how long is actually long. Acupuncture is supposedly eastern in origin and is considered a form of Chinese medicine. It can be traced back to about one millennium BC in China. It is known as chimsul in Korean traditional medicine and Kampo in Japan.

Amongst archeological evidence, the earliest records are from hieroglyphics from around 1000 B.C. that suggest use of acupuncture. The earliest literary evidence is from the Yellow Emperors Classic of Internal Medicine (History of Acupuncture) compiled around 305-204 B.C. A mummy found in the Alps from 5000 years ago named Otzi on examination revealed over fifty tattoos on its body. Some of these tattoos are conveniently located on acupuncture points which would be used to cure the ailment Otzi suffered from. But they could all the same have been decorative in nature. The origin of acupuncture is traced to the earlier still use of bian stones, sharp pointed stones used in antiquity to cure diseases by bloodletting.
