Why Is It That Most Hydrostatic Transmisions Can Not Be Rebuilt?

I need to replace hydrostatic transmission seems to be simple to repair but would need to machine my own piston.

    It is because most of
    1)The old components are not compatible with the rebuilt components.
    2)They might not be available in the market.
    3)They might not be working well with existing parts of the component.
