The Acts of the Apostles appears immediately after the four New Testament Gospels about the life of Jesus. This book, consisting of 28 chapters, is known as a history of the rise of Christianity. It describes the activities of the followers of Jesus Christ after he ascended into heaven. Christ instructed his disciples to spread Good News of his Resurrection by baptising people with water, "In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." The Acts of the Apostles includes the preaching of Saint Peter, the conversion of people to Christianity, miracles performed by the apostles, the arrest of the apostles and the martyrdom of some of Christ's followers. The most notable of these is St. Stephen, the first Christian martyr, who was stoned to death for his faith.
