Among schoolchildren in the US, March 2 is Read Across America Day.  It's a day in which students are encouraged to read for the love of reading AND to share what they love about books.

March 2 was chosen because it's the birthday (as BullDog noted) of Theodor S. Geisel, who wrote under the name Dr. Seuss.

On an unrelated note, March 2 is the birthday of composer Kurt Weill and archetypal New York rocker Lou Reed.
