What Is A Troodon?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

A Troodon is a type of dinosaur. Its name means 'wounding tooth'. Scientists say that it was probably one of the smartest dinosaurs because of its big brain in comparison to its body.

There is some debate about whether the Troodon was a vegetarian or a meat-eater. Like the meat-eater Tyrannosaurus Rex, the Troodon's eyes were located on the front, rather than the sides of it head. This could aid depth perception and hunting. However, its teeth resemble those of vegetarians.

The Troodon walked on two legs like the Tyrannosaurus Rex. However, it was much smaller at two meters in length and one to one ½ meters in height.  It had partially opposable thumbs, similar to those of humans. Scientists think that its arms could fold back like a bird's wings.

Troodon remains have been found throughout North America. Because the fossils range in age over millions of years, it is thought that the dinosaur evolved over time. The fossils may represent different species of Troodon.
