    Christopher Marlowe first came to prominence as one of the "university wits". Six young men, all from either Oxford or Cambridge University who "commandeered" the London stage writing plays and poetry for all and sundry. Marlowe is remembered for four plays. Tamburlaine, The Jew of Malta, Edward11, and, Doctor Faustus. He was murdered under the auspices of Sir Frances Walsingham, in 1593, remembered by Shakespeare in a later play, with allusion to "the reckoning in a little room".  He was BA (Corpus Christi) and MA three years later.
