How Is Momentum Calculated?

I would like to know this question for a homework assignment.

    Momentum is a term that refers to the effect of motion. Momentum is described best as the product of mass and velocity of an object i.e
                P=mv
    where p stands for Momentum, m stands for Mass of an object and V stands for the velocity of that object. It is a conserved quantity
    The calculation for Linear momentum can be done with the help of the above formula, However for angular momentum use the formula below:
    L (angular momentum) = R x P; R cross product p (linear momentum)
