Can I Paint Or Antique A Portion Of My Kitchen Cabinets? They Are Formica.

I have older Formica kitchen cabinets that have a beveled section in the center that I would like to antique. I don't know what products will adhere properly. The cabinets are next to the baby.

Yes you can. You need to prime the surfaces with an oil-based primer ( Cover-Stain by Zinesser) then you can top coat it after an hour with any good quality latex (water-based) paint.

Zinesser is one of the best primers on the market.
They also have a primer made especially for laminate/formica cabinets, but you have to let it cure well before applying the paint. It is an acrylic primer and you can use an acrylic paint over it. It is formulated to resist peeling and chipping.

You can , but before you do, you need to put a good sealer or primer on them. This give the paint something to bond to. Without it, the paint will scratch off

Hmmm that's a hard one to answer. You can paint them but if they are around babies where they can chew on them,i would hesitate to do it. Here is a page from bob vila. Www.bobvila.com/wwwboard/messages/102486.html
