When you arrive at the airport in your vehicle, the first thing that will be done is your car check with the security. Then you go to your ticket counter. You will have your luggage checked. You are then given a boarding pass and id. You are instructed to go to TSA (Transport Security Administration). Have your jackets, digital camera, laptops out of the bag and place them in a plastic tub provided. You will have to remove metal objects removed from your body. Make sure that you have your boarding pass handy. All your items will go through an X-ray machine. Then you will go through a metal detector. Present your boarding pass to the TSA person at the metal detector door. The ground staff will take your ticket and give your boarding pass. The last step is when immigrations check your passport and other travelling documents. The airline security do a last minute check of everything including your boarding pass and travel documents before letting you board the plane.
When you come back to the destination airport, you are checked by the immigrations, baggage collection and finally custom-checking.
