How Do I Fix The Outside Wood That Is Splitting Even Though I Have Caulked Them Twice?'

I have caulked some outdoor trellis posts twice now. It has rained and the wood has split. My husband is building them and i am beginning to wonder if he might be using the wrong kind of wood.

    More than likely the wrong kind of wood. And i believe wood has to be treated for outdoors to withstand the elements

      Try linseed oil, i used it to treat wood to protect against the elements and it works fine, there are two types of linseed, boiled and raw i used boiled
