When Will Delta Air Lines Exit Bankruptcy?
Answers
According to the most recent announcements, Delta Air Lines, one of the largest US carriers will exit bankruptcy protection in the beginning of May 2007. Delta declared bankruptcy in 2005 and over the years the airline was forced to cut nearly 6000 jobs in an effort to turn the tide on a seemingly sinking business. Nevertheless, more than 47,000 people still work for the company The airline will likely be worth over $9 billion once it is permitted to exit Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
A number of major businesses have tried to take-over Delta Air Lines, but all hostile take-over bids ended up failing. According to most analysts, if Delta wants to survive, it will have to find a way to turn larger profits on long-haul, transatlantic routes. This is probably a realistic goal, as transatlantic routes do still tend to be more lucrative for most airlines than short-haul, domestic destinations.
