What Can You Tell Me About The Tibetan Prayer Dog?
Answers
In Tibet, as the name suggest, the breed was usually reared in monasteries where it was highly prized and has been for many centuries.
In essence, a Toy Dog, the Tibetan Prayer Dog or Tibetan Spaniel could be construed as a short haired, longer legged Pekingese. There is also the look of a Papillon about it too, but this is incidental rather than any input into the gene pool.
It is an attractive – if rarely seen - small dog, with smaller specimens being the most valued and hardest to obtain even in Tibet. If more examples were available in this country, the Tibetan Prayer Dog would doubtless be very popular and more widely seen than it is today.
The two pioneers of the breed in this country have imported most of the finest stock. Even so, the breed is little known outside dog fancying circles. This may change in time through the good offices of the Tibetan Breeds Association.
