Microwaves are basically a form of electromagnetic waves. These waves are characterized as Microwaves because their wavelengths range from 1mm to 1m. Microwaves play an important role in today's modern world of communication. They are in fact widely used in the communication industry. These waves are used by Bluetooth devices as well as for wireless internet access. WiMax also makes use of these waves. Some Cable TV and internet access is also dependent on these waves. It is also used for remote sensing.

The discovery of Microwaves dates back to the year 1864. In this year James Clerk Maxwell claimed that such waves existed. This was further proved by Heinrich Hertz through his experiments. Another important figure in this regard was of J.C. Bose. He made a public demonstration of wavelengths in the year 1894.
