What Does Boyd Mean?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Boyd is the last name of a well-known nineteenth-century entrepreneur from Australia. He played a major role in the early development of the area of Twofold Bay. One of the initiatives that Boyd took was in the area around Eden. It was around the Eden area that Boyd erected a lighthouse tower. This tower is located at the southern entrance to the Twofold Bay area. While the tower was never actually used as a lighthouse as such, it did provide a good view, and so it was used as a good lookout point for several years. It was the point from which the whalers from the Eden area, who were based on the shore, could watch the whales, which migrated along the coastline.

It is also the last name of four people called William Boyd: the American actor William Boyd (June 5, 1895 to September 12, 1972), the Ghana-born English novelist and screenwriter William Boyd (born March 7, 1952), the bass guitarist for the Little Rock, Arkansas-based American rock band Evanescence, William Boyd and the Canadian pathologist, academic and author William Boyd (writer of several medical textbooks, born on June 21, 1885 and died on March 10, 1979).
