How Are Words Accepted Into A Dictionary?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

One of the most important criteria for words to be accepted in a dictionary is it has to be a new word. However, a typical argument that is noted is that sometimes there are new words that convey the same meaning, so the new word is basically unnecessary. The other words that mange to finds its way into the dictionary are words that are widely used. These can be termed as ungrammatical, vulgar, unnecessary, racist, nonsensical, or ugly. These words are permitted into the dictionary since the dictionary does not ask you to use it but tell you the meaning to it.

Some of the important things also taken into account are whether these happen in a broad series of contexts or a narrow choice, and how old the term is.
