What Does Scientific Classification Mean?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Scientific classification also known as biological classification is the way how biologists group and categorise living and extinct species of various organisms. This scientific classification can also be known as taxonomy; however it should be distinguished from the folk taxonomy, which does not have any scientific base. Modern scientific classification has its roots in the work of Carolus Linnaeus, who had grouped the species according to their shared physical characteristics.

The earlier known system of classifying life forms from the great Greek philosopher Aristotle. In his time he was the first philosopher to classify all living organisms, which were known at that time as plants or animals. After this he classified these animals on the basis of their transportation (water, land or air).
