What Are Trade Secrets?

Trade secrets could be in the form of a proprietary, product, technology, production method, raw material source, marketing technique etc. It is something that is unique to an organization. Normally it is something that gives a competitive edge to the organization in the marketplace. An organization can go to any length to protect its trade secrets.

The most famous trade secret in the world is the Coke formula. The Coca Cola Corporation has been claiming for the last century or so that the formula for Coke lies in an Atlanta bank locker. The keys to which are in the possession of the top management of the company. Over the years the company has managed to build a certain amount of curiosity about the formula. All the Coca Cola production units across the globe are sent a concentrated mixture. They add other elements and bottle the product. There have been numerous litigations that have launched in the past when employees of a company have deliberately or inadvertently made public its trade secrets.
