Neath is a town and a community in Glamorgan, South Wales. It is based on a river by the same name and is located in the traditional county of Glamorgan. This county is also known as Glamorganshire and is one of the thirteen historic counties of Wales in England. In the ancient times Neath was a crossing on the River Neath. It has been a settlement since the time of the Romans.

Neath became a market town during the time of the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century. A lot of iron, steel and tinplate manufacturing industries sprung up in this place during the industrial revolution and contributed to its growth and development. Today it is a very big commercial and tourist centre. It was a river port on the banks of the River Neath until the recent times.
