There are no Starbucks Coffee outlets in Amsterdam as yet. The Dutch, who have a tradition of being coffee drinkers, have always had coffee houses, but Starbucks has still to arrive here.
Starbucks, in recent years has added more than 5000 stores in Europe, Africa and the Middle East (EMEA). To service these outlets, Starbucks has opened a European Starbucks Support Center in Amsterdam. In addition to being the regional headquarters for EMEA, it will also have a roasting plant, designed on a modular basis. This is to allow for easy expansion, as and when demand grows. To do this, Starbucks has tied up with the Amsterdam Port Authority.
Starbucks is named after the first mate of Pequod, a character in "Moby Dick", a novel authored by Herman Melville.
