The standard size of the table tennis table is set as per the rules governing the game of table tennis. The table should be at height of 30 inches or 2.5 feet from the ground. This should be the elevation at which the flat playing surface of the table should be at. The standard width of the table tennis table is 5 feet or 60 inches. This translates to precisely 152.5 centimeters. There is a standard width that the table should subscribe to as well. The rules state that the table should be exactly 9 feet long. That translates to exactly 108 inches, or 274 centimeters.

The table should also, the rule states, usually be in the standard color prescribed, which is green. The perimeter of the table also has a line running along each edge. The table usually has a matt finish. Besides the white line at the edges, which is all of 2 centimeters wide, there is also another line running down the middle of the table. This line splits the playing area on either side of the net into two halves, and is very helpful in doubles play.

Table tennis is also popular as ping pong. It is a sport where two or four players hit a ball back and forth to each other,  with bats or parquets. The game is played on a table divided by a net. According to the rules of the game, the players have to allow the ball played towards them a single bounce on their side of the table.

They are expected to return it quickly, for it to bounce back onto the opponent's side. The game is fast and exhibits quick reactions. A skilled player can spin the ball. This makes its bounce, but the reaction on the opponent's bat is difficult to predict and affects the confidence of the return.

The game of table tennis or ping pong is played on a 274 cm or 9 ft. x 152.5 cm or 5 ft. x 76 cm or 2.5 ft. high table surface. The authority on the game, the International Table Tennis Federation specifies an area not less than 14 m or 46 ft long, 7 m or 23 ft wide and 5 m or 16 ft high for competitions. However, there are no limitations whatsoever, in size or shape. The game is gaining immense popularity as a dedicated indoor game worldwide.
