What Is The Difference Between A Synagogue And A Church?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Synagogue means "Assembly" and is used to refer to the religious meeting place of Jewish people and the congregation that meets there.

Church is the exact equivalent word for Christians.

As for the buildings, synagogues vary almost as widely as churches do.  They do not, of course, contain crucifixes and altars as many churches do.  Both churches and synagogues tend to have rows of seats.  One very important part of the synagogue is the cupboard where the sacred scrolls of the Old Testament are kept.  There is no real equivalent to that in a church, except possibly the cupboard used to contain the Host in Catholic churches.
