Printer is most commonly used output device. We can print different documents such as letters, invoices, newsletters, reports, packing list and much more. The print out that we get from printer is called hard copy and it is permanent copy. Different types of printers are used some prints black and white images and other produces colour images. Printers are of many types, some of them are dot matrix printer, inkjet printer and laser printer.

The print head mechanism on a dot matrix printer can contain 9 to 24 pins, depending on the manufacturer and printer model.  The speed of dot matrix printer is measured by number of character per second (CPS) it can print. Inkjet printer works by spraying very small, fine and magnetically controlled jets of quick drying ink onto the paper.  The resolution of this printer is better than that of a dot matrix printer. The speed of an inkjet printer is measured by number of pages per minute (PPM) it can print. Laser printer uses laser beam to create an image which transfer on a paper. It gives best quality printout at faster speed.
