How Many Hours Of Sleep A Day Does A Person Need, To Be Vigilant And Alert?

    It really depends on the individual. Some people thrive on just cat napping, or 4 hours or so, while others need more, like me, at about 9 or 10 hours. Most people sleep best for 7 to  8 hours though, hope this helps.

      It is an individual thing. Most of us need between 7 to 9 hours, but there are many who thrive on 4-6 hrs.

        For a fully grown adult, it is an absolute minimum of 8 hours of sleep. For a small child/baby it is about 17 hours, for an older child it is around 12 hours and around 13 hours for a teenager.

        Some people can get away with 6 hrs of sleep, but most experts say you should get 7-8 to be fully rested

          6-8 hours of sleep are recommended. 6 hours for those 40+ and 8-10 hours for younger folks.

          Recent studies suggest mass sleep periods are detrimental to a person's health and can perhaps cause cancer. REM sleep is the only stage of sleep with any regenerative value; thus, one should take 4 or 5 20 min naps throughout the day or simply use brain entrainment to adjust the brain waves for like periods. Or simply switch to a no calorie diet..calories are bad.

          Sleep does not equal vigilance or alertness...if that was the case people would not let thieves steal things from them ....preparedness now maybe would be a better use of sleep...

          7-8 hours is normal. If you tend to get too much sleep you will be exhausted.
