Is Puff Pastry Difficult To Make?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Puff pastry may not be 'difficult' to make, but it is somewhat labour intensive.  Indeed many people find that buying ready prepared puff pastry is actually easier than preparing your own.  Short crust and choux pastry are quick and easy to make and usually home made is far better, but puff and flaky pastry are a little different.
With puff pastry you mix your dough and then chill the mixure for at least 15 minutes.  Then whilst it is chilling, you prepare butter into an oblong shape.  Then you roll out the dough and place the butter in it, fold over and chill for at least 10 minutes.  Then you roll the dough again.  Fold it in three and chill for 15 minutes.  You then repeat this process of chilling and rolling out.  Next, you roll out the dough then chill for at least 30 minutes.  Finally roll out and use as per your recipe.
All this will take at least an hour and the results may not be brilliant, so it is much easier just to buy it and enjoy the time you have saved !
