How Do You Process Things In A Data Warehouse?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

When you mean process things in a data warehouse I'm assuming you are asking how does data move from one stage of a data warehouse to the other. The most conventional flow of information in a data warehouse will look something like this:

    Transaction System - Pre-Staging - Staging - Data warehouse/Data mart - Analytical processing

There is a chance that data could move directly from the Transaction system to the data warehouse. This normally happens in the case of flat files. There are a number of tools that are used in the entire process. The Transaction system could be SAP while a TIBCO integrator can be used. Informatica could be used for the ETL process while there is on offer an entire gamut of reporting tools in the market.

The movement of data in the data warehouse will solely depend on the requirements specified by the client as he is the one who is paying for everything.
