What Is Jellied Pork?

Answer Question

Jellied Pork is a Hungarian meal, but it is also present in other Eastern European countries. It is an entire meal on its own and usually includes cooked pork and vegetables served in jelly. A good way to think of this is like a salty, transparent jello, with vegetables and meat.

In order to make Jellied Pork at home, you will need 3lbs of pork, including knuckles and trotters, water, salt, powdered paprika, 1 onion, 2 carrots, peppercorns and 2 egg whites. First, you should cook the meet in boiling water, adding both salt and paprika to the pot, as well as the carrots, onion and peppercorn, once the meat is about half cooked. Prior to finishing, add whipped egg whites and then keep cooking on low heat for about 5 minutes, before letting it simmer.

Once this has been done, you will have to bone the meat and chop it into chunks. Place these in a transparent bowl and then pour the stock over it. You may then place it in the fridge in order to let it set. Once the jelly is firm, you can serve this meal with bread and lemon juice. Allow your guests to pour the lemon juice over the top of the jelly.
