    A babushka doll also known as the matryoshka doll, stacking doll or the Russian nested doll, is basically a group of dolls of decreasing sizes kept inside one another.

    Its plural form matryoshki should be applied when referring to one or more dolls. A group of matryoshki comprises of a wooden shape which can be drawn apart to expose one more figure of the same kind inside, and so on. The number of figures placed inside one another is generally six or more. There are basically cylindrical in shape, tapering towards the top and the base.

    The dolls have no hands, the originality lies in the painting of each and every doll, which can be tremendously intricate. Matryoshki are generally designed to pursue a precise theme.
