You would see the numeric listing of sales tax on the reciept given to you, when you purchase something. When you go to the gas station to purchase gas, under the price listing on the front of the gas pump, you see the amount of tax being added to each gallon of gas you purchase.

If, you look carefully at the receipt you recieve from a grocery store, very often beside those purchases requiring a tax be added to the price of the item, you will see a capital "T" beside the price of the item. Some other items will not have this capital "T" beside the price of the item. Not everything you purchase from a grocery store, requires a tax to be added, to the price, of the item. For instance, if you go to a grocery and purchase a loaf of bread, you will not pay a tax in some states. If, you purchase a box of soap you will pay a tax, plus the cost of the item.

There are very few items we purchase in today's world, which does not have a tax amount, added to the cost of the item. Most receipts you recieve you will include tax amounts, added to the total cost of the items purchased. Your reciept will show subtotal, tax and the total purchase. Even, if you have a service man come to your home and check or repair something in your home, you find a tax inserted after the total cost of the labor charges. All replacement items for the furnace, water heater, etc. have a tax attached to the price of the item. As, I heard someone say recently, taxes are everywhere!
