How Do I Connect My PlayStation To My Broadband Connection?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

First, you will need the Network Access Disc that was supplied separately when you registered your console.

You will also require a suitable length of Ethernet cable to connect the PlayStation to your broadband modem or router. Before purchasing, check the manufacturer's manual supplied with the modem or router to establish whether a cross-over or straight-through Ethernet cable is needed to link up all your hardware. These cables are widely available and relatively inexpensive.

Take the Ethernet cable and plug it into the network connector at the rear of the PlayStation. The other end of this cable should be plugged either into the external modem/router or into your computer if an internal modem is used.

Power everything up and run the Network Access Disc in your PlayStation. This disc takes you through the process of creating and saving network settings.

Should you fail to become an online gamer, the most likely cause is that your broadband service provider requires the MAC address of the console. This is found in the Version Information screen that appears in the PlayStation browser.
