Answer Question

Symptoms refers to the difference in one's health that only the patient who is complaining of it can feel. For instance, headaches and abdominal cramps are symptoms; nobody can see them but we can believe what the patient says. The signs, however, are those that the doctor can see and verify like fever and diarrhea. So, for you get a comprehensive picture, I will enlist both the signs and the symptoms of salmonella poisoning.
Salmonella poisoning is also known as Salmonellosis. It is more common in summers than winters and a majority of the patients are children, old people or immunity compromised persons. The signs and symptoms of Salmonella poisoning develop about 12 to 72 hours after the pathogen enters the body. This time is known as the incubation period. After this time has passed, the following signs and symptoms develop:
    • Abdominal cramps
    • Fever
    • Diarrhea
    • Vomiting
    • Headache
    • Mild flu-like symptoms
    • Loss of appetite
It may take a long time for the bowels to adjust even after the infection is cleared, which usually happens in 5-7days. Most people do not need treatment and deaths often occur more from dehydration as a result of excessive diarrhea rather than the infection itself. So, patients should be kept hydrated by drinking lots of water and given OHT (Oral Hydration Therapy). In some cases, intravenous fluid supply may be necessary. Antibiotics are only necessary if the infection spreads into the blood.
Some patients who have had Salmonella poisoning may complain of the following symptoms a long time after recovery:
    • Aching joints
    • Painful urinations
    • Irritation in eyes
To keep yourself safe from Salmonella, always cook your meat well, clean substances that came into contact with raw meat (knives, cutting board etc.), do not use same utensils for vegetables and meat and not to handle food if you have Salmonella in your system.

Symptoms include high fevers up to 104 F, sweating, inflammation of the stomach and intestines, and diarrhea. Symptoms usually resolve but many patients become Salmonella carriers.
