Can Someone Open A Joint Checking Account With Your Id ?

Can someone open a joint checking account using my name and ssn, without my permission? Do I have any recourse? My father and i have another joint account and i was notified by the bank that a new account has been opened and needs my signature. I tried talking to my dad and he just forces the issue to sign these papers. I feel like I'm being forced in to a situation without all the facts. The new account is already open, checks have been ordered and used and which have my name on them.

How did someone get your ID?  They would also have to forge your signature, because banks always require the signatures of account owners.  Have you notified the bank that you know or believe that someone has falsified your information to open an account?

This person is a relative  (my father). We  have another joint account and i was notified by the bank that a new account has also been opened and they want my signature.  I am not sure what to do or how to handle this I tried talking to my dad and he just forces the issue that i need to sign these papers but i feel like I'm being forced in to a situation without all the facts.  Apparently the new account is already open, checks have been ordered and used and which have my name on them.

Are you an adult?  If so, you should contact the bank yourself and say that your name was put on this account without your knowledge or consent.  Also, you should tell your father directly that you do not wish to have this account in your name.  In what way does he "force the issue"?  What is the purpose of him opening this account?

It sounds like there is more involved here than just this bank account.  You say you have tried talking to your father, but he forces the issue.  Perhaps another family member or a close friend could help you if you feel you are being forced to do something you do not wish to do.

        Best of luck.
